Well it's time to start thinking soccer. We have a lot of new things to learn for our transition to U-11. Offsides, larger field, bigger goals, more positions to play.
So we're going to get a jump on the season with a Stingrays "Jamboree", this Saturday, August 9, from 9 - 11 AM on our new practice field at Southdowns School. It will be a full practice, but with some added fun and games. Parents are welcome to stay and watch.
As last year, our regular practices will be on Wednesdays (beginning August 13) from 5:00 - 6:30 PM at Southdowns. We will also have a skills practice on Mondays (also 5-6:30) with Coach Nhan at BRCVPA. This is an extra practice for kids who want to work on their shooting, passing and control skills, and is voluntary. They won't start right away, but we'll let you know when these will begin.
If you haven't signed up your child for BRSA (http://www.brsa.org/Default.aspx?tabid=95), the deadline is for registration without a late fee is August 17.
Now that we are moving into U-11, there will be some new issues for us. First, we can (and should) get our own uniforms for the Stingrays. I should have some information about cost and options for you by Saturday's Jamboree practice. Second, we will be playing with some new rules (namely offsides). We will also need photos (passport or wallet size class photos will do) for player passes. And the organizational aspects of the team will be getting somewhat more complicated. So I am preparing a "parents' manual" to help everyone with these changes.
But the bottom line remains the same. We are here to have fun playing soccer. And I am very excited about the upcoming season. Please feel free to contact me or Coach Andy with any questions you may have.

P.S. Southdowns School is located at 2050 Hood Avenue, Baton Rouge, LA 70808. It is one block south of Perkins Road, just east of Acadian/Stanford. From BRCVPA, head south on Acadian Thruway, turn left at Perkins Road. Turn right on Hood, and look for the school on your left. We will be practicing on the North field (the one closest to Perkins).
